HOME INTERIOR DESIGN – TRANSFORMATIONAL INTERIOR DESIGN

Coming from an eclectic art background that began dancing with a regional ballet company to a career in fine art and illustration and a BFA from NYU Tisch, my approach to interior design begins with seeing the home as a canvas to create a signature space that is personal for the people living in a special world created only for them. I hope I inspire you in this section with homes that are dynamic, gorgeous and innovative in their designs.

DESIGN THAT CAPTURES YOUR PERSONALITY

Home interior design for me is finding what makes someone special and creating a design concept that captures their unique sensibility while bringing out a fabulous style, harmonious flow, and visceral feel to the space. For me there is beauty in all forms and styles of design, whether it be contemporary, traditional, mid-century modern, zen, farm house, eclectic, steam punk, industrial, boho chic or any conceptual mix of styles. No matter what the look, when a gorgeous artistic look captures the subtle nuances of your personality it creates magic. I look for homes that capture that magical touch in this section with an array of many different styles that may be just perfect for you.

A UNIQUE APPROACH TO DESIGNING SPACE

Our approach to design is heavily influenced by Melinda Joy Miller (Kim’s mother) who founded the Shambhalla Institute for the study and application of how space effects your psyche. She was an innovator, specializing in shifting the health and energy in her client’s environments to impart a shift in their emotional life. She worked in the Occupational Therapy department of a state hospital, where she saw a direct correlation between one’s environment and their emotional state, behavoir, and developmental process. She taught me that you can literally shift a client’s outlook, mood, and behavoir by using the environment as a tool, not just to make it look good, but to be active in its influence.

Approaching design in this way has been a dynamic and profound way to merge the psychological underpinnings with an artistic conceptual look. When both factors come together, it can have a dynamic effect on your senses. I have seen clients shift in their self esteem, creative inspiration, and heal from a painful transitional time in their life through these techniques. Home design can be set up to calm your mind, spark your creativity or capture a look that empowers couples or families with different sensibilities.

MAKING A SPACE FEEL AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS

My philosophy in working on home interior design projects is to create a design for the space that feels as good as it looks. This can be a bigger game of chess than you may imagine. My mother was formally educated to be a cultural anthropologist before she became a sensory motor-integrative therapist, but when I was a little girl she began her journey to become a medicine woman (she is the author of the Shamanic Gardening: Timeless Techniques for the Modern Sustainable Garden) and a pioneer in her specialized approach to feng shui. As a second generation feng shui master with an understanding of how energy works and moves, I look for inspirational spaces to bring you in this blog that exude a sense of harmony on top of being stylish. The perfect feng shui home is balanced with an immediate feeling of warmth and invitation.
