The room was transformed in a single sitting — under five hours, after a short planning call. A two-hour shop, plus pieces already in the home, reused in fresh new ways. Styled two different ways for Interior Design Magazine, for the owner of Parts and Assembly. Photos by Ana Eiriksson.

Home Refresh

DON’T LET ONE WRONG CHOICE UNDO A WHOLE ROOM

A Home Refresh one wall, one room, or an entire space. Whatever the scope, this service is a smart answer for any modest design need — or a scaled-down version of a full project.

Get a luxury-level designer for as little as 15 minutes, or as much as 30 hours — for whatever you actually need, at any budget. Perfect for:

  • Design dilemmas you can’t solve on your own
  • A second expert eye on a decision you’re not sure about
  • A small design project with a modest budget
  • An almost-there design that needs pulling together
  • A home you love that just needs fresh energy

People often live for years with a space that isn’t quite right, when the solution can be surprisingly simple — the kind of fix you’ll wonder how you ever lived without.

IN THE PRESS – Simple, Elegant Fixes

Kim Colwell “hides her clients’ printers inside credenzas,” with cord holes drilled and sliding shelves — a fix she calls “the only civilized solution.”

WHAT CLIENT SAYS

“Kim helped me convert a blank wall into a space where I feel comfortable and confident on Zoom… It was simple and inexpensive, yet made a huge difference!”

Worried about picking the wrong furniture, finish, art?

Second-guessing finishes on a remodel? Standing in a room that almost works, but not quite, and not sure why. Most people don’t need convincing that their space could look and feel better — they need someone who can tell them, with confidence, what will actually work.

That’s exactly what a Home Refresh gives you. Cover one or all of these in your session:

WHAT YOU GET WITH A HOME REFRESH

  • Move the furniture into a more welcoming layout
  • Restyle and redecorate with what you already own for a designer look, from tabletop vignettes to whole rooms
  • Hang art for high impact, create a show-stopping art wall, or rehang your art for an instant facelift
  • Color and decorative painting ideas for your walls (for a full color plan, see Wellness Paint)
  • A “big idea” — opening up a wall, a new wallpaper, a dynamic architectural feature
  • Scale, color, and style review for any new furniture
  • Advisement on new reflected ceiling and lighting plans
  • Expert shopping together in real time for that perfect chandelier, sofa, or statement piece you can’t find on your own, or revitalizing furniture you already have
  • Window treatments and upholstery direction
  • A second eye on remodel finishes and selections
  • Clever, simple fixes for everyday problems in your home

WHAT CLIENT SAYS

NOTHING BOUGHT. THIS NOOK GOT CHIC.

A cluttered piano once filled this nook. Kim cleared it out and restyled the space in an afternoon — using only what the client already owned, arranged in combinations she’d never have thought to try herself. End result: a room that feels fresh, stylish, and completely her own.

This is Kim’s specialty — getting you, and your style, even when you don’t fully know what it is yourself. The end result isn’t a look. It’s a space that feels more like you than you knew was possible. Read it in Kim’s testimonials, told through her clients’ own experiences.

You get her experience as a designer who works on complex, large-scale projects — the same eye and creative range, brought to your refresh. Taste, experience, artistry, and a genuinely joyful attitude, all applied to elevating the home you already have.

What Clients Say

“I can’t even tell you how blown away I was by Kim’s vision. She worked with pieces I had and moved them so they made more sense, and the pieces she added I loved. She listens to you and almost channels your vision, but sees things you would not have thought of.”

— P Froman, Jewelry Designer

In the Press: The Unexpected Pairing

Trade-only treasures or a flea market find — it’s the unexpected pairing that makes a room feel personal. As Kim told Livingetc:

“We are in a new era of bespoke bathroom remodels that feel soulful. Consider unconventional pairings, like a flea market-sourced vanity with natural finishes against glossy retro tiles and let your bathroom reflect your self-expression and personality,” says Colwell.

BEYOND A REFRESH: FENG SHUI, BIOPHILIC, AND COLOR THERAPY

These aren’t add-ons — they’re already part of how Kim reads a room, the moment she walks in.

– Feng shui: every design suggestion does double duty — beautiful, and working for your career, relationships, and abundance. Bed, desk, and seating are placed for empowerment and connection, and the flow of qi is tuned so your home feels harmonious the moment you walk in.

– Biophilic design: for better sleep, calmer days, and sharper focus. Light, air, greenery, and natural materials placed where they actually lower stress — even in rooms with little natural light.

– Color psychology: for the end of second-guessing paint chips. A palette chosen for how each room should make you feel — rested, focused, energized — based on how color affects you personally, not a generic suggestion or a trend.

You don’t have to ask for any of this. It’s already in the read.

Feng shui turns a color choice from a matter of taste into a matter of intention.

“Yellow ignites joy,” says Kim Colwell. “It is the antidote to sadness and represents clarity, confidence, and optimism.”

What Client Says

“More than just a surface remodel, what Kim does is trigger awareness of something that before you didn’t know how to get to – awareness of your space… Kim’s talent is to gracefully bridge the functional and the personal.”

CALM FROM CHAOS | helping parents exhale

Kim Colwell designed the custom banquette and table with Lawson Fenning for her home refresh project, Los Angeles.

The project above showcases a “scooter garage” custom built to double as a banquette. This once cluttered foyer is now a fresh, inviting environment that’s easy to keep organized. Kim designed the doors to open from the bottom up with no base to allow the scooters to roll in easily. The kids loved rolling their rides in after a hard day at play, making it much easier for their parents to maintain a company-ready, relaxing environment. Photo by Jay Lawrence Goldman.
